The Story Behind ChipilWood

ChipilWood began in 2020, but my connection to woodworking goes back much further.

Before starting ChipilWood, I spent many years working as a civil engineer. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind, there was always this dream of creating something with my own hands, especially with wood.

Woodworking had always been a part of my family in one way or another. My grandfather, my father, and I all enjoyed working with wood, each in our own way. So when I finally stepped away from engineering, it felt like the right time to give that old dream a chance.

Today, I create handmade wood intarsia art, bringing characters, stories, and little details to life through carefully shaped pieces of wood. I also design original intarsia patterns for fellow woodworkers who enjoy making things with their own hands.

ChipilWood is a small workshop built around a simple idea: taking the time to make something meaningful, one piece of wood at a time.

What Is Wood Intarsia?

Wood intarsia is the art of turning individual pieces of wood into a detailed picture. Each piece is carefully cut, shaped, and fitted together to create an image with depth, texture, and character.

Instead of relying on paint to create the details, intarsia brings out the natural beauty of wood itself. Different colors, grain patterns, and subtle variations in height make each design come alive.

It’s a patient and wonderfully rewarding form of woodworking, where even the smallest piece has its place in the bigger picture.

At ChipilWood, I create both finished handmade intarsia artwork and original woodworking patterns for those who enjoy making their own.

Original Intarsia Patterns for Woodworkers

Love working with wood? Alongside my finished artwork, I also create original intarsia patterns for fellow woodworkers who enjoy bringing their own projects to life.

From playful characters to detailed animal portraits and imaginative designs, these patterns offer a starting point for your next scroll saw or intarsia project.

There’s something special about watching a design come together, piece by piece, in your own workshop. I hope my patterns bring a little of that joy to yours.

These are just a few examples of the creative possibilities I enjoy exploring. You can discover my available original intarsia and scroll saw patterns in my Etsy shop.
